Design Story

The trick is depth. A stitched wooden well spirals inward toward a dark centre, and the scarecrow breaks that plane — burlap face, burning amber eyes, jagged grin, straw spilling from the collar, clawed hands crossing the illusion's edge and landing on the rim. Around it, the border does the storytelling: carved plaques reading HARVEST NEVER ENDS, CROWS WATCH ALWAYS and SOME FIELDS HAVE TEETH, plus sunflowers, corn husks, glowing jack-o'-lanterns, hanging lanterns, watching crows and a bleached skull. Warm ember orange against deep shadow keeps the eye pinned to the face, then lets it wander outward. That hierarchy is what makes it land.

As a floor composition, the round silhouette and dark outer edge do real work — they frame the illusion instead of fighting it. Centred motif, dense border, almost no wasted negative space. Placed open in a room it becomes the anchor rather than an accent, and it rewards viewing from above and from a distance, so keep furniture off the well opening.
